NRN-NCC New Zealand holds its Fourth AGM

The Fourth Annual General Meeting of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRN) New Zealand was convened successfully on July 12, 2009 in Mt Albert War Memorial Hall at 751 New North Road, Auckland under the chairmanship of its President Baburaja Maharjan. Welcoming all the guests and its members Mr Maharjan highlighted the importance, development and achievements of global and New Zealand Non resident movement. On that occasion Mr Maharjan honoured its patron Ray Avery, who received World Class New Zealand Award for his achievement in Biotechnology in April 2009 with traditional Dosalla (shawl), Nepali Cap and specially framed letter of appreciation. Orphan turned millionaire Mr Ray has been involved in various life saving projects in Nepal including manufacturing of intra-ocular lenses for cataract surgery, Cancer treatment in Nepal in collaboration with Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital and establishment of nutritional plant in Chitawon Nepal. Speaking on the program Mr Ray told some interesting stories during his visit to Nepal including too many shut downs that made most of people uncomfortable. Member of Parliament Dr Asraf Chowdhary, who emigrated from Pakistan 40 years ago, highlighted the benefit of dual nationality provision adopted by Pakistan since the time of India Pak war in 1971 and emergence of Bangladesh. He made it clear that Pakistan has benefited economically, socially and politically by adopting dual nationality policy.
National Coordinator of NRN New Zealand, Dr Amir Shrestha highlighted the progress made so far in achieving dual citizenship status in Nepal.
General meeting formed 3 Members Election Committee which is headed by Ram Lal Bhattu with Shyam Gopal Madhikarmy, Bhubaneswor Dhakal as its members. This committee will conduct electoral process to elect National Coordination Committee of NRN New Zealand for the period of 2009 ~ 2011 terms within 2 months time.
General body also passed a resolution to make advisory board that includes Immediate Past President, National Coordinator and Ex-Officio Member or Representatives from local Nepali organization registered in New Zealand. Astha Singh has done excellent job as a master of ceremony in general meeting and vote of thanks was offered by Bhuban Poudel.
